Young Guns: Peter Godley

Peter Godley of the Columbia Valley Rockies is this week’s Young Guns selection after scoring three goals and adding three assists in two games.

Godley, 18, collected two assists on Jan. 14 in a 7-4 win over the Fernie Ghostriders. He then netted a hat-trick and added an assist in an 8-3 win over the 100 Mile House Wranglers on Jan.17.

“I felt like I was confident with the puck and I was making the right decisions at the right time,” he said. “The team was playing well too. When you have the chemistry going with the guys, that always helps.”

Among the things Godley credited to scoring a hat-trick was being around the net a lot.

“I felt I was battling hard to get to the puck,” he said. “We had lots of offensive zone time and I was confident in shooting the puck.”

Godley now has three hat-tricks this season and when describing the type of player he is, the Calgary native said he’s been told he’s a very cerebral player, who plays a 200-foot game.

“I’m always scanning ahead making the right plays,” he said. “I guess you’d say I’m more of a playmaker, but I’ve been trying to lean into being more of a producer as well.”

In 34 games, Godley has 18 goals and 36 points, including one game-winner and five power-play goals.
