Rockies’ alum Beston-Will inks extension with the Steelers

Carter Beston-Will, who played for the Columbia Valley Rockies in 2016-17 and 2018-19, has signed a three-year extension to be the assistant coach of the Sheffield Steelers in England. The Steelers play in the Elite Ice Hockey League.

Beston-Will joined Head Coach Aaron Fox with the Steelers in 2019 and in their first year in charge secured the 2020 Challenge Cup for the club.

Beston-Will’s interview in the video begins at the six-minute mark.

The Steelers are presently involved in a fight with the Belfast Giants at the top of the Elite league with just 10 games remaining to see who will win this year’s championship.

“On Tuesday we talked about stability with the arena and our contract with them” said owner Tony Smith on their website. “Today we are talking about on ice stability with Aaron and Carter in charge.

“I’ve been impressed with them since the day they arrived here, their work ethic is second to none and their ability to build competitive and exciting teams is there for us all to see.

“The working relationship between a coach and an owner is vital and I have found Aaron to be able to communicate extremely well with me and my management team,” Smith continued. “He understands both the business of ice hockey and the game itself. He knows what we need as a business to move forward and we in turn have tried to help him by providing the tools he needs to be competitive and to win. This is the Sheffield Steelers and the deal didn’t take long with either Aaron or Carter to be concluded. I look forward to a long-term future with them both and wish them well for the remainder of the season.”
