Instat KIJHL 3 Stars of the Week: March 13

 

Bennett Anklewich of the Nelson Leafs, Dylan Malarchuk of the Columbia Valley Rockies and Brandon Weare of the Revelstoke Grizzlies are the Instat Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending March 13.

Anklewich – Top Forward – The Calgary, Alberta product had three goals and five assists in four games for the Leafs, helping them defeat the Beaver Valley Nitehawks in six games. Anklewich scored the game-winner for the Leafs in back-to-back games, first on March 10, in a 2-1 final, then on March 11, Anklewich helped the Leafs erase a 3-0 deficit scoring their first goal and then the fourth. In 13 playoff games, Anklewich has six goals and 14 points. In 41 regular season games, the five-foot-10, 175 pound forward had 11 goals and 30 points.

Malarchuk – Top Defenceman – The Calgary, Alberta product had three goals and three assists in four games for the Rockies, who lost to the Kimberley Dynamiters in six games. In a 4-3 loss, Malarchuk had a goal and an assist. He collected an assist in a 5-4 loss and two goals and an assist in a 5-4 overtime win. In 12 games, Malarchuk had four goals and 11 points, ranking him third among defencemen in playoff points. In 34 regular season games, Malarchuk had 12 goals and 32 points.

Weare – Top Goalie – The Calgary, Alberta product had two wins, a loss and an overtime loss in four games as the Grizzlies defeated the Kamloops Storm in six-games. In the four games, Weare made 102 saves on 105 shots for a .971 SP and a 0.69 GAA. Weare helped the Grizzlies win their series with a 22-save shutout and stopped 32 of 33 shots in a 1-0 double overtime loss. In nine playoff games, Weare has seven wins with a .955 SP and a 1.10 GAA. During the regular season, Weare played in 28 games, winning 20 with a .929 SP and a 1.95 GAA. Weare was named the Top Goalie in the Instat KIJHL 3 Stars of the Month for November.
